Feeder goldfish from the State Fair

We all have to do that sometimes. We work with what we have. :)
Just try to remember the extra info that was provided and make it the best environment you can. The fish is depending on you for it's life. And they can be a lot of fun!

Also, work hard to save your $ and with your parents approval and help you might find a cheap aquarium on Craigslist. I even see them for free often.

Best wishes!
Thank you, I am saving my money from extra selling eggs and parties such as my birthday. But my birthday isn't until January :(
Thanks again!

I have two babies fish that are one inch each, my mom thinks it's fine for now. Its not my decision my mom is the boss and it all is up to her. We both thinks it will be fine for now so that's what Its going to be for however long they live until they get bigger. Once they get bigger I'll buy a tank with my own money if they are still alive. Thanks for all the info throughout this time and the fish are fine for now but AGAIN I PLAN TO MOVE THEM TO A BIGGER TANK SOON. thanks! :)

I suggest you establish a plan to do at least 50-75% water changes every day or every other day, because as I said even one day old goldfish have a high bio-load (one of the highest of all fish) and will turn that water toxic nearly daily as there is simply too much bio-load in the tank...

This is a good site that uses the bio-load of specific fish to estimate required fish tank size...

http://www.aqadvisor.com/

If you add two 'Comet Goldfish' and then select a tank of 2.5 gallons (a lager fish bowl) and click update you will see all sorts of warnings stating the tank is about 623% overstocked!

It's not until you get to about a 40 gallon tanks that the warnings go away and your stocking level per gallon is within acceptable range...

I understand that parents are the bosses, but in the best interest of the fish you should push for a larger tank with proper filtration...

As for larger tanks as said many times they are given away or tossed in the trash, I have a local pet store that sells used tanks and I can pick up 55 gallon tanks all day long for $10-$20 depending on how nice it looks and how clean it is... Don't be suckered into the people that believe their tanks are worth their weight in gold, Petco has $1 a gallon sales multiple times each year, meaning a brand new 55 gallon tank can be had for $55, so used tanks 55 and under should never exceed even 50 cents a gallon...

We all get in over our heads sometimes; sometimes, that's how we learn the most. If your fish don't live until January, don't be too discouraged; it's very hard to keep fish alive in fishbowls (even the largest ones). Trust me, I know; I tried and failed to do it when I was a teenager, in fact, I may have that bowl in my attic now. Besides, those fish have already been through a lot of stress, and it might catch up with them even with the best of care and preparation.

Remember the fish that I brought home from the fair? I have a pond that they may eventually go into, and I already had a couple of empty 20 gallon aquariums that could be up and running in a few days. I only took them on because I knew I had the means to care for them (but even then, they spent their first couple of days here in a bucket). Normally, I wouldn't even get a fish unless I already had a set up ready for it to move into. Whether these fish live or die, take this as an opportunity to learn as much as you can about fish keeping, so they (or their replacements) can live long lives and give you many years of pleasure watching them.
