Hey y'all,
I think I have my first broody hen, she's been sitting on the nest pretty much non stop for 2 days. She also screamed at me dinosaur style when I tried to pet her. My question is, when she hatches her brood, and takes them out to eat, do I need to lower my feeder for them or will the mom help them get the food out. Will it be harder on my older birds to have the feeder lower?
I know I'm probably over thinking this, but I want my Chickies to be healthy and happy...and we may get more baby chicks soon!

One single feeder? It would help the chicks a lot to have their own feeder in a secure spot or the older chickens will find it great sport to bully them away from the food.

If you have the chicks and broody in with the other adults, you may have already found that they can be a bit annoying to the broody. Broodies are usually pretty good at protecting their chicks, but if there are very many, one or two can be picked on and injured before the broody can intervene. It's much easier on everyone, especially the broody, to have their own space, usually a dedicated area in the coop or in the run.

Until chicks are at least four months old, they will continue to be intimidated by the adults, and if they are bullied away from the only feeder, some may risk starving.
