Cool, CA (yes it's a town)
Forgive my poultry naiveness. I currently have a feeder hanging inside the coop, but I started to wonder if I should have in the run instead. Or, should I have one in the coop and out in the run? I have 8 hens and 1 roo. They don't all try to eat at once and I have not witnessed any fighting over or guarding the feeder. The only reason I thought not to put one in the run is that I don't want to feed the field mice who obviously live nearby. Any opinions?

I have a feeder inside and outside. I have a small area on top of the run that i have covered so that no rain can get to the feeder. As far as field mice go...cats can take care of them.

I have my feeders in the coop for a couple reasons.
First, I don't have to worry about losing feed to rodents or rain.
second, I fill the feeders in the evening so that it makes it easier to get the chicks to go in at night. I have 750 sq. ft. runs, and they like to stay out till last light. For a really funny show, watch a numb older guy trying to chase chickens into a coop when they don't want to go in............
