Feeder problem

I have this feeder for our chicks and I am having problems getting a standard pint and quart jars to screw on. Does anyone else use this kind and are you having this problem?

Me too! My husband found an old jar with the correct size mouth to fit it but I still did not trust the feeder and carried it carefully. TSC had no problems refunding my money.

The chicks simply outgrow the miniature equipment so fast, I don't typically bother with it.
I saw a rather simple solution posted on here the other day. The poster simply took an egg carton, cut the lid off and used the bottom with egg dents filled with chick starter. That seemed like a simple solution to feeding young ones. If you get too frustrated with the system you have, give an egg carton bottom a try.

Well I thought it just might be mine. I also thought maybe this type doesn't accept glass jars, only those plastic ones they sell seperately at TSC.

I have a friend that has chicken supplies that I can get some of the bigger waterer/feeders from, so I will just hang on to this one since it is all I have right now.

The plastic jar didn't work for me, either. So I just filled the feeder without the top and let the chickens have at it. I tried the long metal feeder with small holes but my chicks weren't too interested in putting their heads into those holes. I could see a definite preference for the round feeder. When the chicks were two weeks I just put the feed in a cut-down cardbord box. They really loved scratching in it and for some reason did not poop in the feed as I expected.

I saw that and thought it was really cool. But mine would just flip them over, they like pecking at the carton and pulling on it.​

I've used a few feed store hanging feeders for several years and have no problem with them. Myabe you could just feed them in a shallow dish or bowl for the time being.

I have a question or two.

We're going to get our chicks tomorrow. We're expecting to get three. I bought the feeder shown in the OP. Barring a lesson in chicken math, (if we only get 3) will that suffice for when they are grown? I'm trying to get stuff I can use now and a year from now.

Their too young for the coop yet and it is not built. And I have no idea how much bigger we can go with another brooder. I do have a large dog crate that I got at Goodwill a few months back (not know why I was buying it, just did - it was like $10.00). I think we will set that up this weekend in the living room (getting ready to put down a new floor in the dining room where they are now). Wonder how long they can stay in this??
