Feeders that don't waste feed

Heres a feeder I made this summer. I think the key is to make the area where the feed is too small for the birds to stand in and goof around.

I made this one out of plastic guttering and 3 inch PVC pipes, you can mount to any wall so it's out of the way and screw right into the wall and adjust if necessary, I have 14 birds and they waste zero feed, gutter is about 3 inches deep and the tubes you can fill and the birds will rake out what they need during the day.

Schwartz - LOVE that idea!

Here is my favorite one - I'm kind of a feeder & waterer hound, having no abilities to make one (sad, I know.). This is the ONLY one I have that I haven't seen any wasted feed. It holds a lot, and it's a good price. The bottom lip curls back toward the feeder, so they can't flip anything out, and the grill sections are close together also.

On the inside of the door? Brilliant.
I put mine on the outside of the back wall and the trough part is inside the coop. I've noticed that a little rain gets in when there's a really big storm. Your idea is what I SHOULD have done.

I pulled up a pic of the red poultry feeder that I see at TSC and compared feeders and I see EXACTLY what you are talking about as far as the bottom lip curling back toward the feeder. WOW!!! I have the red feeder in my raised coop and they will flip out feed on the ground. Luckily, the other animals will pick up the waste but this feeder would take care of this problem.

And the price is right! Thank for sharing this information. I will be replacing my old red feeder with this one.

Those are some really nice feeder ideas!

I have one of those round feeders with the canister in the middle. I found that placing a extra large flower pot "plate" under it works well for catching any feed that normally gets flipped onto the ground.
