Feeding a Rooster

They can't die from 'adult' food..... you are just trying to scare me.
Why would I just try to scare you? I posted that to try to help someone else, from my mistake.

It was the size of the 'adult' food, not the ingredients. My experience: I purchase 50 lb. bags of whole grains, grind it at home to the size I want and add other ingredients to make a complete food for hens, roosters, ducks. When there's chicks, I grind it smaller and everyone has to eat the smaller food particles.

A few years ago when a broody hen had her chicks, I was extremely busy and failed to replace one of the feeders with the chick food, and it still had the adult sized food in it. One chick became ill, (which is unusual around here) and wasn't able to keep up with the others, and the mom had no choice but to leave the poor chick behind. I decided to cull (kill) the chick, because it was dying. When I used a hatchet to separate the head from the body, it cut onto the crop, then I saw immediately what was wrong--many large pieces of food in the crop that had been unable to pass through to the next stage of digestion.

Needless to say, I learned the hard way, and won't fail make sure all of the feeders have the chick sized food out at the right time, no matter how busy.

Crumble is pretty fine. I don't think chicks would have a problem with it as it states it is for chicks as well as grown poultry.

One more brand of All Flock for you that I didn't see mentioned.

I like all flock because even with my layers, they aren't always ALL laying. One may be broody, or molting, or on strike, or too young to lay, or too old to lay, or slowing down for winter, etc.

Yeah, I don't know why JanetMarie is saying all this..........
She is speaking from experience.
I would say crumble is fine, but maybe not pellets for chicks. Even on the nutrena all flock it says for poultry 8 weeks and older.
The flock raiser is crumbs. Smaller than the chick grit I bought - so it should be fine feed for all.
