feeding bones

I posted a question about feeding my chickens a cooked chicken carcass (it was from a baked chicken we had for dinner). I was told it was okay - so I did - I found 3 bones left (2 at first and one later)- chickens were mighty happy! No problems with anything. I cooked the carcass, saved the broth for the dogs food and separated the carcass into a few large pieces, cooled it off, and put it outside with the chickens - an hour later - happy chickens and no more carcass!
I’ve done the same, and the kids just lost their minds over picking at the carcass.

Patzvetal,

Please don't feed your puppy or dog cooked bones! Its very dangerous - the cooking dehydrates them, making them brittle and very dangerous in their digestive tracts.
This. Well, maybe denatures rather than dehydrates - anyway, changes the structure. But chickens don't chomp/flatten-and-swallow or gnaw so I think cooked bones would be safer for them. So far, I'm not sure enough to do it, though.

I don't find that mine actually eat the bones from the roasts, they just pick the meat off them.

Chickens have very precise control of their beaks when it comes to getting food. They can pick the tiniest seeds out of the dirt and they can pick tiny scraps of meat off the bones.
