I'd like to brood my chicks and ducklings together, as I will only have 2 of each. Is it safe for the chicks to consume the niacin supplement that the ducklings require?

I went ahead and gave it to all of them. I have seen no negative impact on my chickens. They are healthy and happy.

I bought a capsule version of niacin from Walmart. When I refill their 1 quart food containers, I fill it with non-medicated chick feed, a portion of chick scratch, and empty one capsule of niacin into it. Then I shake it up. It has been just fine; I've had them for almost 2 months. The ducks are fully grown (size-wise), and the chickens are fully feathered and about 2/3 grown.

Hope this helps you, Astabile!

I don't see an issue with giving them the niacin capsules, but....

Waterfowl feed already has niacin as an added ingredient (which might be easier, and cheaper than popping capsules)... :)

The ducks do require it, as you know, and it wont bother the chickens one bit.

Good luck!

Quote: Good to know! Thank you. Do you think the waterfowl feed (assuming I can find it here) has the nutrients that my chickens need, too?

Yep. The only difference you're likely to notice is the waterfowl feed will have a higher protein content than the chick feed
