Feeding chickens

Im new to raising chickens so im just exploring the food choices and im using layema chicken feed and i was just wonder how to feed them. Do i just give them what they eat or feed them a certain amount a day

Are they meaties or regular chickens (layers)?

If they are layers, then no harm is done by leaving them a feeder full of feed all the time, as long as it is safe from rodents and wild birds.

If you wish to feed them a couple times a day, some folks do that but I would only do that if they are free ranging and can forage. A lighter weight hen eats about 4 oz. a day, to give you an idea.

A half dozen birds (large fowl) should go through a 50 lb bag a month or so, more or less.
