I am wondering how everyone handles feeding time when having different aged chickens together.

I have 10 week olds that are on starter/grower which my ducks eat also. I don't know why, but it just hit me yesterday that I have one 2 yr old bantam Cochin laying eggs already and a standard Cochin thats probably close to laying age and they arent getting layer feed.

Not sure what to do so I can get layer feed to the laying chickens. Or should I just buy some layer crumbles and mix them into the grower feed? And what about the roos and ducks, do they just eat the layer crumbles also? What about when I switch to just layer feed, will it be ok for all the chickens? I am very confused!

I have 9week olds, roos and layers in the same pen. I give everybody grower feed and put a separate dish of crushed oyster shell out for the layers. Once the young ones start laying, I'll have to figure out if I want to give layer feed, but I'm worried the roos will get too much calcium.....

Hmmm. My Cochin Bantams eggs seem to be fine, but I don't want her to be missing something. Wonder if mixing grower crumbles and layer together would be ok for both?

I have 16 week olds, 10 week olds and 5 week olds. I feed All of them Purina Flock Raiser. It is made for all different ages of poultry. They all eat , they all like it, and when the layers are old enough I will put out a dish of oyster shell for them and up the yougurt for them each day. I don't have to worry if the wrong party is eating the wrong food and trying to keep everyone seperate from the wrong food. Much Less stressfull. Trudy

Well, I feel silly, I just posted a similar question. Do you know if flock raiser comes in an organic vversion? If so, how much is it?
