We have 18 babies all about 4 weeks old and 2 hens, approx a year old. In a few weeks the new chicks will be going outside and eventually will be living with our existing hens. How have you all managed to feed both in the same environment ? Our hens have a boat load of layer feed and their grit, oyster shell left that needs using - but i know that the babes can’t eat that. Do you feed your mature hens separately and then allow them to also eat the chicks food (as it won’t be of any harm to them) how have you all successfully handled this ? I was planning to let our hens free range at our new house and have their feed in the garden but the discovery of a predatory bird (or several) living on the property has but an end to the whole free ranging idea

All flock feed and optional oyster shell seems to be a popular approach.

2x Pork Pie Ken ... I feed medicated chick starter the first month, then switch chicks to Flock Raiser. When the girls start showing signs of laying, add a dish of Oyster Shells, grit too is in a separate dish.
