I have 26 week old BR's and it seems like they are eating an awful lot of feed. They are going through about 3 quart jars of feed a day. Most likely they would eat more if I gave it to them. I leave the feeder in with them all the time. Does this seem normal? Should I only feed at certain times?

I don't think chickens will overfeed

I think you just give them as much as they will eat.

My RIR's 5 week olds and they eat eat eat and poop poop poop

Three qts. for 26 chicks is really not a lot of feed. They are growing with leaps and bounds.

I free feed meaning I fill my feeders (5 gallon containers) and leave them and fill again when they are empty. I have never had an overfeeding problem. They will eat what they want. Unless you are raising broilers aka meaties and then you have to restrict their feed at a certain age.
