Feeding chicks rice?

My chicks are two and a half weeks old and my grandma fed them cooked rice without grit. Is that okay?

They probably won't get sick from it right away, but they should have grit to digest the rice. If you can get them some grit, and it only needs to be a little river sand, your chicks will be okay.

Tell your grandma that chicks should not have such "treats". There is very little food value in rice. It would be like giving a human baby twinkies when they should be drinking breast milk or formula.

Good luck telling grandma not to give treats! My DH knows not to feed the girls crackers, but he does anyway. Gives the grandkids brownies and ice cream right before dinner, too.
