Well I ordered Buff Brahma Bantams and they couldnt be sexed so I ended up with 4 cockerals. They are 16 weeks old and all crowing. One crowing is not bad but 4 is not gonna go well with us or the neighbors so my husband took three of them to let loose in his friends field where he feeds a beautiful eagle. Im not attached to my chickens emotionally, we do plan to eat the larger breeds we have but I feel kinda weird doing this with the Bantams. I plan to do the same with any cockerals that hatch this coming spring. I only want the pullets. MAybe if we just put the cockerals in the freezer too I wont feel weirded out about it. Its just a lot of work to process for such little meat. I really like the small bantams to keep around. VEry friendly and cute. What are others attitudes on here towards the cycle of life and how you look at farming . Im only 3 years into this and need some new perspectives to bump against. I was always a girlie girl but Im enjoying this outside work and self sustainability. But its also put me in a position to now treat animals as food instead of just as pets and its an adjustment.
