Feeding Coturnix Ground Beef?

Awesome X2. Especially if your feed is one that is heavy in all kinds of plant based proteins. This is where you probably read it...I had a problem with organic turkey starter being loaded with soy, corn and all these plant based proteins...Didn't cut it. They started eating eachothers feathers. I tried to keep up with hardboiled eggs and meal worms but then was advised by a nutritionist from Ranchway (organic feed source in Colorado) that the meat meal was a good alternative. Bison is fine. Light boil if you think there is any bacteria from being in the fridge for a period of time or a quick rinse of 1 tsp bleach to 1 gallon water as a quick rinse to remove any bacteria.

Always remove un eaten proteins that are meat based such as egg or meat the morning after , if they have not cleaned it up already.

If you have standard gbs formulated with a meat or bone meal in it from one of the larger companies it may not be needed...but I tell you it made my rough coated birds that were of a big breeding line.. smooth and beautiful. No feather eating around here anymore (Knock on wood).

Thanks JJ..nice catch buddy.

Thank you, Kahler..... I'll do a light boil, just to be on the safer side. I'm going to be more particular about the next bag of quail feed. I haven't had them for all that long, but I've had them on a 19%. After reading more here, I'm going to look for something animal based with a little more protein. They're young birds, not laying just yet, but it's cold and gets dark early now.

yea boilin helps alot or a light sear. if it sits to long in 40 degree or hotter it starts generating bacteria which is mostly in ground beef. steaks and tips and etc not as much a problem.
