I'm wondering how soon Coturnix hatchlings need to eat after they hatch. I know there's a much larger window with chickens, but need to know how long I have with these quail babies. I still have eggs pipping and zipping, but it's been 12 hours since the first baby hatched and I want to make sure they'll be okay. Do I need to start pulling them now or can I wait to ensure I don't mess up the rest of the hatch?

We put a jar lid with marbles and water in it into the hatching bator. We also have rubber shelf liner on the bottom so we sprinkle a little ground up food in there too. Amazingly they begin eating and drinking within an hour or so....

That 12 hour chick is going to need food asap. Alteast in my incubator I cannot introduce water or food without worrying about higher humidity and bacteria (with the food molding and chciks pooing) so I take even wet chicks out once the hatch has been going on for about 8 hours....putting a wet chick in the brooder as long as all the other chicks are day olds as well causes no problems they dry fast and start skurrying around
