Feeding Frenzy

For chicks I would cut back on treats even more or even not feed them at all, as it's essential during this growth phase that they get all the nutrients they can get, which their feed provides. They're just like little kids... they'd rather have ice cream and candy than broccoli and carrots.

If you really want to give them treats still, use them in conjunction with "training" - my chicks would get one or two mealworms while I held them - that was their reward for being handled.
 
At 4 - 5 weeks old, I suggest that you only give nutrient dense or otherwise beneficial treats. My chicks at that age only get: a plug of sod from my untreated lawn, scrambled egg, what ever they dig up in their deep litter run.
