I have my first pair of pigeons ever, and they just hatched at least one chick. I don't want to disturb them, so I can't see if the other egg also has hatched. The guy I bought the pair from told me that I could feed them on a 50/50 mix of chicken layer pellets and whole corn. That's what they have been getting since I first got them, but I wonder if it's nutritious enough for birds that are actively breeding.

Should I be changing their food to help them feed the chicks? I am not anywhere near a feed mill, but we do have large chain farm supply stores here, like Tractor Supply and Agway. Neither of them carry pigeon feed, though. Even if they did, with just the one pair of birds, I would worry that a large bag would go stale before I could use it all.

So, can I keep them on the same diet or should I change to something else?
