Do you feed your feeder pigs grain or just food scraps/grass/hay or both??? Is it better to feed them just hay/food scraps or grain??? How much hay do you give to your pigs??? Also do you give them grain all day long (like free choice)???

I gave my pigs mostly starter at first/ then grower/cracked corn mix. Finisher I give about a month before butcher. Grower is plenty also by itself. Lots of fresh water. I did give some sweet grain sometimes but just a bit in with other feed once in a while. I gave hay little handful or 2 every other day. Also gave bread/milk they loved it it was there favorite. I got a cart of day old bread for $3 and gave slop to them all the time. Love yogurt too buy it old when on sale and freeze it. Fruits/veggies. Some veggies they can't have, no meat or chocolate either. I have gave wheat but soak it the night before in hot water it expands. Contact your local feed mills and ask for screenings. I get cheap pea screenings, wheat screenings etc to feed. Sometimes you can get cheap feed from, food bank, restaurants, and farmers that is going bad.

um...not sure i agree with all of that...

pigs are not ruminants. grass is worthless to them. Grains make a good diet for them. Remember that lysine is very important in their diet and is usually supplemented when feeding grains only. Pigs have a digestive system very similiar to humans as far as what it will handle. Meat is totally acceptable to feed to them.

just for the record...I have run hog barns and been incharge of 50,000 hogs on feed at one time
