HOLY COW! or should I say Holy Chicks!

Man, my chicks go through a lot of feed and most of it is on the floor of the brooder.

Do I need to make sure they have feed constantly throughout the day? If so, I could be fillikng that feeder four times a day or more!

Any suggestions on how to keep them from getting feed on the floor of the brooder? Our coop isn't quite done (this weekend), and when it is, we will be moving the 5 wk old chicks there and suspending the feeder.

In the meantime, I'm just wondering how often I need to be checking the feeder now and when it's in the coop.

Thank you!!!

If we are talking about chicks...........

There are feeders with tops that have oval holes that will keep them from wasting so much feed; otherwise, you are just throwing good money away.

We hang our feeder and waterer and that saved us alot of money on feed. The feeder and water should come up to their backs and you raise it as they get bigger. My chicks ate alot more feed than my hens do. They should have feed always so dont take their feed away to save on money. I also feed alot of scraps and throw them scratch morning and afternoon. Then they are out to free range for a couple of hours each night.

Put a large plate or whatever it takes under the feeder. If they can tell the feed from the litter, they will eat what they have spilled.
