Feeding Silkies meat bird feed to put on weight

Hi somone was telling my grandma that they feed their silkies meat bird feed and it helpes them keep on wierght. We have a few silkies that we cant get to put on weight and wonder if this is healthy? Or is this feed just for non long lasting birds since most meat birds are killed in the first year.

I do think they need more protein than regular chooks, and that is basically what broiler (meat bird feed) is.

I am just more liberal with my corn and other treats when it comes to the silkies and they all seem to be very healthy and a good weight.

other good protein treats are the meat of sunflower seeds, dryed split peas or lentils, and scrambled eggs.

Some of my silkies never seem to eat so are skinny, I think they just want to keep their girlish figure. But, I feed meatbird grower when I am not breeding to hatch and I also add in sunflower hearts, safflower, wheat, barley, oats and flax.
