Feeding Wild Birds

Have you tried safflower seeds? I had European Starlings at my suet feeder chasing off all the other birds. I switched over to safflower seed and they vanished shortly thereafter, but most of the rest of the birds were perfectly happy with it.
When I switched from sunflower to safflower seeds the starlings and grackles emptied the feeder...on the ground. I think they were looking for the good stuff.

I don't see them anymore.

The cardinals, finches, and titmice love safflower seeds.

You’ve got cardinals eating yours? That was one species I haven’t seen eating it that I wish I could see, but mine’s a suet feeder, so that might make the difference. 🤔

I have never seen a cardinal at my suet feeders.

While mowing along the fence on Sunday, the club president flushed a woodcock. He noticed movement along the fence. Took a look and saw two woodcock chicks. I haven't heard the mating song or seen the mating dance in several years, but apparently they are still breeding at the club.

The Western Bluebird babies should be fledging the nest box any day now, 4 of them. They are loud enough to hear across the yard. They are about 20 days old today.

The Juniper Titmice decided a nest box wasn't good enough for them and are raising their brood of 4 in the crack of a tree too low to the ground for my liking. Maybe a 12 to 14 inches off the ground. These babies are also very loud and should be fledging soon, not soon enough for me so I don't need to worry about them! :barnie

Bewicks Wrens had 4 babies, they fledged the box last week.

Ash-throated Flycatchers are still in the incubation period in one of the boxes.
