Feeding Wild Birds

I thought I would post some photos of my wood duck houses. Note the eye bolt that holds the door closed. The coons haven't figured out how to open these yet. Two different door configurations they both work well.

I don't think I have seen a Ruffed Grouse around here in a good 10 years. When I was young you could not go on a woodland hike without seeing at least one. Maybe over hunting?

Ruffed grouse were relatively common in the Sourlands, but there are none locally. I used to like to hear them drumming in the spring.

I don't think i have ever seen a ruffed grouse, except maybe once in Canada. The humans are ruining habitat for everything wild.

So the home feeder has been emptying out every evening - I've only been half filling it. I actually thought it was deer bouncing it around and eating the seeds. Last night I turned on the backyard spotlight around 9 PM. There the culprit was - a fat raccoon eating away. It also got into a bag of trash that I lazily left on the back deck.

That stupid bear came back to my feeders so the birds are getting a rest for a little bit :/ I'll reload the feeders maybe Monday/ Tuesday

I hang my feeders high in a tree so bears don't bother them. Hung from smallish branches that won't support heavy bears

I would love to hang them higher.... but I only have a 6ft ladder lol.

I use a 6' stick to hang my feeder on a branch that I can't reach. If I wanted it higher, I would use a longer stick.
