Never saw a coyote bird!Today while sitting on the club porch I saw a coyote cross the lane just outside the gate.
Did you miss my Sphinx Moth Caterpillar posts?A heavily parasitized hornworm has 'set up ' shop just outside our bathroom window. Yes, I grow tomato plants in my flower beds - no surprise there. The Ichneumon flies/wasps are starting to hatch. Tiny little things even when viewed through a magnifying glass. Something in nature that I have never witnessed before. Always something more.
Yes there are color variations just as there are with the Tomato Hornworms.I did miss them - neat. Are there color variations as the ones that I have dealt with are generally more green.
Personally, I think they might be moving gradually more southwestish. I live in PA and have seen Orioles, tanagers, kestrels, goldfinches, and hummingbirds (to name a few of the birds I don’t see frequently) and they are EVERYWHERE. This is the first year I’ve ever seen an oriole, and one is nesting in my yard. They must be just gradually shifting Southwest...?I live on the East coast, New Jersey to be specific. I have lived in the same home for 54 years and have fed the wild birds that entire time. This year populations are at an all time low. I would guess somewhere around 20 % of what normally feed here and at a wildlife club where I also feed. I was wondering if anyone else has noted a similar decrease in wild bird populations. I know that West Nile hit here fairly hard last year. Perhaps that is what caused the reduction ?
I grew up in SW PA. We had Baltimore Orioles every summer.Personally, I think they might be moving gradually more southwestish.
