My chicken (Plymouth Barred Rock) 7 years old. Flock size is 3 free roaming. About 6 months ago she started limping and not going as far. Thought it was her nails as they were long but turns out they were long cause she wasnt stratching. So we now trim regularly but no improvement. There are no spots or cuts anywhere on her feet. Is it old age or something else? Attatched are pictures. She does not perch anymore and still lays. Eats ok and drinks plenty of fluids. She will run if scared but sat in pouring rain the other day until we moved her and doesnt go far from the coop. It doesnt seem to be getting worse nor better.

She is probably just getting older and may have some arthritis along with some scaly leg mites. I would soak her legs in some warm Epsom salts for about 20 minutes. You can use soapy water with dish washing liquid if you don’t have Epsom salts. Gently brush the scales with a toothbrush, then dry the legs. Aplly an oil of choice, such as mineral oil, coconut, vegetable, castor oil, or petroleum jelly once a week and rub up into the scales. Aspirin can be given for pain, or a vet may prescribe some meloxicam.

X2.

It looks like a very mild case of scaly leg mites... but maybe combined with her age they are sapping her strength?

Or as said above, a touch of arthritis?

At any rate, she will probably enjoy the hen spa days that are required to get rid of the scaly leg mite.

I had a bad case of scaly leg mite... so tried to do the treatment once every 3 to 4 days, 6 treatments total.

And that finally fixed it!
