Fellow BYCer's, need help locating for retireing Military man

I'm in Virginia in the Powhatan area. I'm about half way between Richmond and Charlottesville. The neighboring county, Cumberland is rural and most everything zoned agricultural. There are also a large number of Tyson meat chickens farms in Cumberland.

I don't know what you are looking for exactly or your finances but just an example. 5200 sq ft house ( I'm sure WAY bigger than you need ) with 8 bedrooms and 4 bathrooms on 5 acres for $299,000 in Cumberland County.

I live in very rural south TN. There are things all around here for little money as everyone is trying desperately not to starve w/ all the jobs that are lost.

Finding a place to rent or own shouldn't be hard but God forbid if you want a job too.

My Dad is retired Navy as well. Anchors away!!

What is your range and I'll give the paper a look.

Marshall Co. is where I am located.

Tell you're dad when you get a chance "fair winds and following seas"

I appreciate you taking a look in the paper for me. Im looking to spend no more than 65000. might go a little higher with owner financing. can be an old farm house or a fixer upper with no more than 5 acres if possible. Depends on the situation. Again thanks for looking.

Mike

I'm in Western NC. Will keep an eye out for you. I know there was a double wide here w/ 2-3 acres of land at $35k. It sat for a long time, but someone finally snatched it up and it's lovely. My friend was interested, but it was restricted. *sigh* Makes no sense b/c the guy in the house across the road has turkeys and chickens!

I have been serving a lot of foreclosure notices, etc. so...like I said...will keep an eye out for anything on or around my route and keep my ears pricked for you.

It's a beautiful area and if you don't need a job, it's the perfect place to live.

Let me add my thanks for your service to our Country. My twin brother is a retired CPO from the Navy, I served in the Army.

There are several places here in Kentucky that have what you are looking for, especially around the southern part of the state. There are also some places around Elizabethtown/Fort Knox area that would fit your requirements. Plus we have two VA hospitals in the area, the main one here in Louisville, and Ireland Army Hospital at Ft. Knox.

You can try these sites:

http://www.LandandFarm.com

http://www.LandsofKentucky.com

http://www.huntinglandtrust.com/

http://www.craigslist.louisville.com

I understand the reluctance to move back to Texas, given the situation involved.

Also there are grants available to help fund start up of rural businesses out there, such as small farms, agri business, etc.

Hi, If you are interested in WV, you might check with the Dpt. of Agriculture. they have a monthly free publication called the Market bulletin that you can get online or by mail. it has listings of farms for sale or rent. They might even have information available grants or loans for veterans .
Good Luck in your endeavors, and THANK YOU for your military service.

ps - there is an auction site called asset-auctions.com that currently has large poultry equipment going CHEAP in PA! you can bid on it and pick it up later.
incubators, lights, brooders, watering systems. Might be a good start for your new business.

Okay, if you Google Cedar Grove Rd, Columbia, Kentucky there are two properties side by side for sale, one is 5+ acres and a Farmhouse for 35,000.00 and the other has several structures on it, including a shop/barn/office on 4+ acres for $45,000.00.

There are several BYCers living in that area already, no restrictions on the property, and it is in the Southern part of the state.
