Hi! Today I bought 5 four week old quails. I asked for all hens and the seller gave me some that seemed like males to me. I was hoping someone could help me

Here is no. 1: this quail looks like a Italian quail to me

Here is no.2: normal brown

thanks very much!

1,2,3,and 5 look like ladies to me. Well I’m on the fence about #2. #4 is a handsome little gentleman. Pic #1 is an Italian; boys of both breeds (Italian and normal) have reddish breasts with no speckles. Girls usually have at least a little speckling.

Oh my...I think you got all males.
Yikes.
BUT...at this age the spotty chest are not a sure thing.

Is the ad you bought these from still up on CL?
I'd like to see it.

Thanks for responding! Number 4 has a bald head from over mating. Could male quails try to mate other male quails?

Thanks, I was hoping it would say more.
I'm really afraid this person does not know his birds well enough to sex them at this age.
I could be wrong but I am almost positive you have more males than females, if not ALL males.
Number 4 and 3 have very bald heads. Number 4 really looks like a male but could there be a chance that they may be females

number four has a rusty chest.
Unlesswe are looking at different number 4s the number four is a male.

i’m thinking 1,4 males with 2,3,5 being questionable......:hugs
where are you located?? sometimes we can help in finding better options than craigslist
Personally I give my hens with a “guarantee” especially if the colors chosen are not feather-sexable.....there’s basically no “excuse” for a seller to mistake gender in 5 week old feather-sexable colors!! 🤬
