female Ameraucana chicks

Your probably looking at this years prices. I purchased the first year they were offered and they were expensive in my opinion, and they offer quite a few colors this year. I think this is the first year for Meyer too thus more expensive. The only commercial hatcheries that sell Ameraucana are Cackle and now Meyer that I know of. I'd like to find more. The quality I received from Cackle was very good.

If they are priced like other common breeds and have usually ,not always multi colors, = EE's. I am just trying to help others just learning about the magical world of true Ameraucana's and not get duped by false advertising, usually spelling Ameraucana as Americana. Not written in stone, but usually. I'm no expert, just relating my experience, my opinions to help. Do your own research, I dislike what some of these hatcheries do with mislabeling. Although in my opinion, EE's are pretty birds, friendly, good layers of usually green eggs, once in awhile pinkish or tanish colored eggs.

I'll go back to minding my own business.

No, no. Please don’t mind your own business. Hearing what everyone has to say is how we all learn.

I truly think we have the same line of thought. Not only are the hatcheries misrepresenting breeds of chickens, there are companies misrepresenting prefab coops. I know they are good in some instances (mine is now the sick bay/broody set-up), however, some new chicken keepers are misled by the info provided on these cute, little, darling structures.

I also have one Easter Egger, purchased as such, and three pure Ameraucanas. There are two breeds out there that I still want, an Araucana and a White Face Black Spanish. Once those are on board I’ll be happy.

I like hearing what everyone has to say. Truly I do.

Oh my lord it took me forever to get back on here and find this thread again! Internet out with severe storms, and I can't find posts anymore. Might be a hint lol. Thank you for such a nice post, And you are right, people new to this chicken world need good information. I learn here everyday and I've raised chickens for decades.

Americana chickens or Ameraucana are not known for being flighty. They are light and little framed so that they can take some air. Nevertheless, they normally just fly narrowly-- they aren't probably to leave your yard.

Ameraucanas do not generally go broody, as we went over. Nevertheless, if they do, the hens are known to be amazing mommies.

These chickens flourish in the cold, as they have little pea combs and either nonexistent or little wattles -frostbite will rarely be an issue.

Once again, this is primarily determined by genes and the environment in which the chicken is raised.
