My 10 year old goose, Momo, has been sick for a few months now. Her backside has gotten quite large in the past couple months and it's hard for her to move around the yard. She developed a sore on the bottom part where it touches the ground but it has scabbed and partially healed since. She doesn't move around much because it's so difficult so I carry her across the yard and put her into the pool daily. She eats and drinks a healthy amount. About 2 inches around her cloaca is bald. Where her tail feather meets her back there is a small tumor type mound and the feathers don't grow on it, it's about the size of the pad of my thumb. She's my little baby and it would mean the world to me if anyone knows what's wrong with her and what I can do to help her

You will want to post this in our emergency section and maybe even our Goose section for more help. I would start in the emergency section first...

https://www.backyardchickens.com/f/10/emergencies-diseases-injuries-and-cures

https://www.backyardchickens.com/f/47/geese

I sure am sorry she has not been feeling well. I hope someone can help you in one or both of these sections.

I don't know anything about geese but, am wondering if she is retaining fluid - which has made her backside enlarged and also about the tumor - which may be larger internally than what appears on the outside.

Is there any chance you would take her to a vet for a consultation of what your options would be?

I don't know if 10 human years is a lot in goose years, or if she is considered elderly.

Welcome to BYC! Glad you decided to join our flock. I'm sorry your goose is sick. I'm a chicken person and don't know anything about geese, but you have been given some good advice by drumstick diva, and some good links by TwoCrows. Please feel free to ask any questions you may have. We are here to help in any way we can. I hope your goose recovers. Good luck.
