Hi all - my 10 month khaki girl is sounding a little bit raspy...but only when she's talking. She's otherwise active, eating and laying eggs.

I've been putting drops of VetRx in their water bowls, and brewer's yeast on their food. I bought a bottle of rooster booster (liquid B-12) at TS, but I have not administered this yet.

I really want to avoid the long trek to the vet, especially with all of this COVID nonsense.

Last week, I lost my best girl quickly to an unknown illness. I guess I'm concerned about avoiding a pandemic among my own little flock.

Has anyone experienced this?

Thanks as always for your wonderful advice.

Is there any mold in your coop? How often do you clean the bedding? Could you post a video of her, besides sounding raspy does she have a hard time eating/drinking or breathing.

Every year one of my female's voice goes hoarse for a few weeks, Currently, I have a Rouen right now that can't talk very well, it usually goes away after a week or two, Last year I had a call with the same problem. I have no idea of the cause, possibly hormones?

Thank you. I do take great pride in cleaning the duck barn daily. I know how important that is so I do keep it pretty pristine (until they muck it up overnight). They free range during the day.
I also use a product called Oxine, which is a disinfectant for avian use... very diluted, no odor.

She's drinking water just fine.

Very slightly hoarse is a good description of what she sounds like.

You can also mist her with the Oxine ah I use it at 6.5 oz to a gallon of water then put my hand held garden sprayer on mist and aim above their heads so just just lightly lands down over their heads. I don’t know if your girls are fussing with each other right now but my Muscovy are fussing at each other more than normal because of hormones and that can cause hoarseness.

Thank you, I’ll try that!
