If I've misread something and misunderstood, I'll definitely take the points and giggles.

I feel like I've read somewhere that there's a female specific feather pattern that isn't sex-linked. My attempts to Google only bring up sex-linked birds. My brain says it's some kind of wild-type or quail pattern?

I was wondering what counts as Wild Type and if this chick has that color pattern. I don't think my Google-Fu is very good when googling genetics. It almost looks like it has lacing but I don't know if that's just the look of baby feathers or what.

I'm sorry if this is a dumb question. I'm ignorant and trying to learn.

IDK what that chick is but it's not wild type.
Wild type AKA duckwing does have a sex specific pattern. As chicks they're the little chipmunk striped ones.
There's other patterns that are too. Partridge, Wheaten, Etc.

Are you speaking of sexual dimorphism?

No, but yes.
Like I know the difference between male and female chickens. But how The Moonshiner mentioned, there's a female-specific coloration with Duckwing/Wild Type. I couldn't remember the name and when I googled female-specific color it only brought up Sex-Link, which isn't what I was looking for.

Aaaa thank you! I've been rattling my brain and searching BYC/Google and only bringing up sex-link birds as my answer.

She's only 3 months old and I am super impatiently waiting to see what she lays 😂
I know this feeling well! 😆 I have a bunch that are 4 months and they are barnyard mixes with several egg color options…it’s like waiting to find out the gender of your baby! Sooooo impatient! 😂 Your girl is really beautiful, I just LOVE blue laced red coloring 🥰😍

See that's with her too!! Her mom(s) lay blue or green and her dad carries the genes for blue + brown/green so I'm like, what are you going to be when you grow up!! She doesn't have a weird cushion comb like all my green egg layers so I'm just.. I'm so curious. I wanna know so bad!

Thank you though!! I was really surprised to see what she grew up into but she's definitely my favorite color wise! The one with the white neck is super friendly and perches on my shoulder.
