I have two male Cayugas and they are less than a year old. How many females should I have with them, without absolutely breaking the bank and also keeping the peace between all of them. The males have been raised together since birth so they get along. Could I get 6 females? 3 and 3 and separate them into different pens with 3 hens for each male? Or can I do 6 females and 2 males in same pen together? Or 8 females and 2 males in the same pen? Thanks so much for all the help!! Sorry for the long post!

It really depends on the personality of your drakes. Some can do fine with just 3 girls, some need way more than that.
I thought so, I have two males and they are extremely sweet, friendly and not skidish. I wanna get some pure females but I don't know where to get them at the moment. Thinking about gettinf ducklings but if have to get rid of all the males 😅 I definitely wanna use the ones I have. Thanks a lot!!

You can usually buy sexed ducklings from a hatchery. You can also try and see if people around you are selling adults of the breed you want.

Yeah, I thought about buying some from people, but several people have had females with white feathers on them. I read online that some females can get white feathers as they age, but id like to get solid color as much as I possibly can. 😅

I've had Cayugas and its inevitable for them to stay all black. That's just how the breed is. The first year they will be black, but with every moult they will get more and more white feathers. Each bird will turn white at a different rate. I had one female that by age 2 she was very white. My other females only had a few flecks here and there.

Ah ok ☺️ if I get some female Cayuga that have white in them and breed them with my males, would the offspring look normal until older age?
