Fenbendazole & Corid

Thank you so much for all the info. May I give nutridrech to the bird that isn't mixed in with it? Or is that a bad idea?
No, don't give any extra vitamins during the course of treatment.

Interesting, I've always heard (from this site at least) that Corid is not a gentle treatment.
Huh, I've never seen anyone mention that Corid is not gentle. I may have to see if I can find those threads.

It was from a long time ago, 10 years about, when I first dealt with a cocci outbreak.

Either way, the extra yogurt didn't hurt and I still have two of the six chicks that were affected (they'll be 11 this spring).

I agree, yogurt is a good way to get some probiotics into them. I give a little buttermilk to chicks and if I have extra, I stir some into my laying hen's mash. They love it:)

Good morning all.

Sick 3 yo hen with pale comb, lethargy, loss of appetite and water stool mainly white. Crop empty for the last week.

They are not on a regular worm schedule ( I am now implementing this) treated with poultry dewormer 5x (fenbendazole) 4 days ago. Also started corid treatment In water on day 2. She is isolated.

Question is, worms? Or coccidiosis? Can I do the dewormer again while on Corid? The bottle recommended 3 day dose for heavier loads.

I am just guessing at this point which it is, if it is even either.

Can I treat for both or will this overload her?
I’m so confused by fenbendazole (poultry dewormer 5x). My chickens have confirmed roundworms. The bottle says one capsule for chickens 4-7lbs, then repeat that one dose 10 days later. But I keep reading people doing fenbendazole for 5 or so days in a row.

I gave my chickens their first and only dose 3 days ago. I saw the first roundworm today, and it was still moving after it was out. I thought they should exit, dead?

Can someone help me with dosing/duration? Is it normal to see one come out alive after starting dewormer?

Follow the directions for the product you have.
It says you can repeat in 10 days or give for 3 days, then repeat in 10 days.

The posts you see recommending 0.23ml per pound of weight is the max dosing of Fenbendazole (50mg/kg) given for 5 days - this dose and duration will treat most all worms chickens can have including Capillary worms, but excluding Tapeworm. This is generally the Liquid or Paste Safeguard or Panacur. You have Fenbendazole, it's just packaged and marketed differently - a "new" product on the market that doses at an "approved" dose of 1mg/kg unless my math is wonky. Kim @Eggcessive and/or Kathy @casportpony please correct me if I'm wrong.

If you are treating Roundworms only, then repeat your dosing in 10 days. You're seeing worms expelled, the hen(s) have quite a few, so I would definitely repeat in 10 days.

The 1 mg/kg dose is supposed to be given for 5 days, and it treats only large roundworms and cecal worms.

4 pound getting one tablet is getting ~3.72 mg/kg
6 pound getting one tablet is getting ~2.95 mg/kg
7 pound getting one tablet is getting ~2.1 mg/kg

Oh right! I forgot the 1mg/kg was for 5 days.
So...I'm not understanding this new product at all then:oops: How do you KNOW you are giving the right dose. Is it just marketing or "good 'nuff"?
