Fence Post Alternatives??

You dont neet to set even chainlink posts in concrete. Just pound them in with a fence pounder. They even make a special protective top to keep the post from rounding over. T posts or U posts work great Yeh they arent so good for horses But thats what hot wire is for. But they are a pain in the neck to get back out if you decide to move them. The only posts that really should have a good anchor are the corners so that you can stretch the wire over the total length. You can achieve the anchor without concrete if you put in cross bracing. A post that attaches at the top of one and at the bottom of another. Keeps that last post from being bent over when you stretch your wire.

If you get a good tension on the wire it will stay nice and neat for quite a long time. And It will do its job better. Wether you use chainlink or welded wire. use a stretcher..... And use a top and bottom wire to clip your chain link to. The top and bottom wires keep the chainlink from being stretched out by a dog.... same goes for something going over the top.... Here I have to worry about people going over to cross the property.... why I am doing hot wired.

Good luck.... mine is next. I got four hundred and thirty three million miles of it to do.... LOL (slight exaggeration here)

Combination of being stupid tired and overwhelmed with the task ahead.... and only me to do it.

Home Depot has "landscape" timbers that I used to put in 6' stockade fencing. They are about $2=3 each. Just make sure to install them so the flat side is where you nail or attach your fencing. Cement each in with a bag of cement and they should be fine.

Wish you the best,

What ever you use I feel you will need some from top to top of post the hold the fence ridgid under the pressure of a tight fencing material. Post will loosen up standing alone under tension. Plus it give some to attach the top of the fence to.

Why don't you call a fence company bet they would give you all the wood you need from old fences they tear down. I have a freind that builds wood frames who does this. I have built 3 coops with old fence wood. I had to buy some wood but not much. Here's a coop built from old fencing its an old vintage coop that I used the frame from but the outside is rough cedar from old fencing. Its not picture perfect but it works

TSC here at my store sells round wood post for about $5-6. They are 4/5 x 8ft long. You don't have to cement them in, just tamp the dirt well around them.

Steel T-posts are pretty cheap as well. The 6 ft are under $8 a piece. They also give you free bags of clip that would work well with the chain link. We have SO many because many folks don't take them when they buy the posts, so when a person does want them, we just give them to them, as many as they want.

Good luck !
