Fencing question...

It looks nice, Hawgun.

My night run is 2x4 welded steel with a 2x4 livestock panel over the top. Then a tarp over that. I've got small square wire 3 feet up the sides and laying in a 2 foot apron on the ground, and weighted down with heavy rocks.

Here's the deal.

Any predator can tear poultry wire. So you must use something strong enough so it can't be torn by a raccoon or strong dog. Around the base, you need something small enough so that a raccoon can't reach his clever little paws through and pull a chicken to him. Then you need to prevent any creature from digging under the edge and getting in.

There has to be something over the top that is strong enough to keep a raccoon from coming in from above.

The 2X4 non-climb wire is much stronger than the welded wire. You can get non-climb with a 2 X 2 square that works well for poultry. It is called "kennel wire".

I use rabbit wire instead of hardware cloth. It is much heavier and much stronger. You can buy it with 1 inch squares that will stop anything but a weasel. It also comes in 1/2 inch by 1 inch squares.

I would expect corrugated fiberglass panels up high on the sides and roof to be effective as long as it was very well supported. A strong determined dog can break through them, so not so good at ground level. I'd be careful about using them on the roof because of the greenhouse effect. Just consider what effect they will have in your situation.

If you do go with the kennel wire Lowes had it on clearance a few weeks ago. I bought some for a external run I was building then went another direction and took it back. I think it would be just fine for the upper part of the run. I used 1/2 on all of mine but I had a 100 foot roll of 4'. You can mail oreder a roll for about 75 bucks and shipping is free. Wont find anything around here like that as I searched when building my coop. Good luck with your build!
