feral cat

Kill it. if it was a Racoon or Skunk it would already be dead right. Then we would be looking at a topic with look what i killed, pictures attched.

This is a sore subject with me right now as we just had our 3-yr old house cat escape over a week ago and my wife, whose cat she was, is very upset about it. I have spotted her about a mile away but she won't come to me--I figure something scared her off to have had her go that far. The point is, not all "wild" cats are there because someone abandon them or their mother, some do belong to someone who would very much like them back. We have made sure all our neighbors are aware and, hopefully, will be able to locate where she is hiding and live trap her but, until then, I just hope no one offs her because they think they should.

I'm still holding out hope for Midnite to find her way home safely.

Place responsibility (or blame) where it should be...Feral cats and dogs exsist because of "HUMAN" irresponsibility. It's not the animal's fault they are put in that situation. Killing them might come easy to some, advocating for spay/neuter apparently is a bit more difficult.

We had a feral cat come into the coop. My BF tried to shoot it with a pellet gun. It did not kill the poor animal, which sent me running to the house to get the gun. In the meantime, he had to put it out of it's misery with a shovel. That shook him up so bad I promised that from now on we would trap any cats and give them to our local cat shelter. I hate to see him cry.

To be honest though, if one comes and he isn't there, I'll get out the 22.

shoot it, spay and neuter doesn't stop them killing your animals.... if rats and mice are a problem, bait them, use a method you can control rather than taking chances with a wild animals.

if you're worried about "what if it's somebody's cat....?" if they love their pets so much they might want to consider putting a tag on it.

x10. I find it really sad that people still do not GET that we brought domesticated, and in turn feral cats, here. My cat does a wonderful job of keeping rodents down, and if he gets a wild bird so be it. Guess what? Endangered speices are killed all the time by predators. Kill the lion to save the deer? I think not.

Good job taking it to animal control. They will spay and most likely find a good home where the cat can live as a barn cat on somebody's ranch if the cat is otherwise healthy. There are lots of programs here in CA where feral cats are altered, and sent to a farm to work as rodent control. If so many endangered spieces were so strongly important, I doubt this "Alter and rehome" situation would be have been in buisness more then a day or so.

ETA: I am speaking for cats that have NOT shown interest in chickens or livestock. If a cat is hurting/killing owned livestock, handle it as you see fit.
