feral cat

If a regular shelter, vs. a rescue group or no kill shelter, the cat will most often be killed.

The OP hasn't been on in a little while so we don't know the particulars.

To the folks saying don't kill it, it may be a pet.

When you trap a cat, you can IMMEDIATELY tell a feral from a tame cat. Feral cats act worse than raccoons when trapped, often hissing, growling, screaming, beating themselves against the trap, and trying to claw you. Anything that does not do the above, I consider to be a domestic pet and should either be ID'd or turned in to the proper authorities.(no kill shelter?) Though plenty of cats live out on their own, independant of humans, unless it acts like it is going to kill you, it can most definately be rehomed.
