Thats crazy. No one probably noticed at first until they got their population up. Then they were everywhere!

that's too funny, they turned a bunch of kids loose to catch feral fighting cocks . . . I bet "they have to watch out for the spurs"!

I didn't notice that it said fighting cocks. The two feral colonies of chickens that I know about aren't game chickens. One is just full sized, and the other is mixed breed banties.

The banties hang around near some fast food places near where I work. One day I opened my car window and a rooster was hiding in a bush nearby and crowed at me. Today I was watching a hen and chicks and a couple of roosters wandering around.

Interesting from an urban ecosystem perspective - stray dogs have nearly disappeared and chickens thrive. Though I'm surprised cats don't pick off a few and keep the population in check. You know the hens have to find a good place to lay and brood where they're not, uh, sitting ducks for urban predators.

My internet connection was being flaky and the photos wouldn't load. Could be.

Whoa, cool. Just goes to show that these birds are tough! Probably acting more like their ancestor the red junglefowl now that they are completely on their own.
