Hey there. Another Zephyrhills resident. Our wild chickens are not protected. You can catch them if you want to. Lots of people collect and eat their eggs and otherwise just enjoy them free roaming. We do not have any city ordinances for keeping chickens. You aren't supposed to do it, but people do. I have a flock and live right downtown. The city doesn't really want to fool with it although i think we would benefit from adding an inclusive ordinance like St. Pete as it would be attractive to home shoppers. Our downtown is well suited to micro homesteads IMO. One can have a really nice set up with a couple coops & a good garden. I'm working on it <3
