Fermented Feed Container

Quick question: Is it safe to ferment feed in a plastic jug that used to hold vinegar or will it be toxic? The jug says HDPE and the number in the triangle is a 2.

Of course, the jug will be washed first!

Any thing food grade is ok. Metal is not ok. But, how you gonna ferment in a narrow necked jug? How much ferment are you planning on making? How big a flock? A bucket would be the better choice.

Bakeries sometimes have empty frosting buckets available.
I use them. I think they are 3 gallon size.

Yes, that would work as long as your not planning on making much at one time. It might be a little flimsy, when stirring it also. I currently use a ceramic crock.

How much feed will impact your container size. When I ferment I use half gallon glass mason jars. With the wide mouth it's easy to get a spoon or spatula in. They don't take up as much space as a bucket, but again, depends how much feed.
