I'm doing the same thing after reading an article @lazy gardener recommended. But I'm wanting to ask about your kennels. I keep young chicks in my dog kennels till they almost get to laying age and then put them in the areas I want them. Do you have any picks of how you're dividing up your kennels? I just give the group of chicks, growing together, the whole kennel. They only sleep in the coop in the kennel at night, otherwise they all free range the entire day.So I plan on starting fermented feed when I get back from Utah on the 15th .
I have read on it a ton
I plan on using a huge mason jar.
I have a flock of 22:
I have 2 10x10x6 dog kennels split into 3 parts:
Part 1 houses older hens (9)
Part2 takes up 2/3 of 2nd kennel houses my teenagers (9) on adult feed
Part 3 takes up 1/3 of 2nd kennel and house two mamas with 2 total babies.on chick feed
I plan on fermenting both chicken and chick feed.
The question is how much to feed?
And will they need feed out all day long?
How often do I start a new Bach so I doing run out?
my chickens are have feeders all day long full of dry food.
I have bins I will feed in.
I work in litres and I only need 4 litres for my many chickens (16, but 10 of those are bantams) and quail. After consulting a conversion calculator it seems 4 litres = 1 U.S. gallon. Crumbles do expand quite a bit so I'd start with quarter filling a 1 gallon container with food, add water, keep checking to see if you need to add more water, and in your heat (whew, that's hot!) it will possibly be bubbling by the end of day two. Even if it isn't fully fermented they'll still love it soaked and you just top up what you take out, always leaving a bit of fermented feed in your container to quickly get the new food going. It's a good way to get fluids into them in the heat.
Thanks....I'll go look that up. I understand the 2 separate kennels connected, I've done that in my big pen, but didn't know about panel divider.I have 2 separate kennel connected.
The second kennel came with a panel divider.
Hoiw much chick feed should I ferment I have 2 mamas and 2 babies
For the chick feed?
What about the chicken feed?
