FERMENTED FEEDS...anyone using them?

You are right. Don't blame anyone else here but me for the way you've been treated, though....everyone's been very helpful except for me. I apologize for my attitude towards your post and it was wrong of me to use you for an example of something that always rubs me the wrong way. I hope you will forgive my rudeness and crankiness about your post. I am sorry.

I am sorry that you've been made to feel bad about how you posted here. I thought you worded your posts very, very nicely ... and that the sentiment you expressed in them is important to share.

Nah...no worries, LJ. The Father sent a message, just like I thought He would (didn't even make it until the morning, did I?

) and so I do feel badly about it and don't like feeling that way, so I'll try to do better on these things to avoid feeling like this in the future. It hurts Him when I act ugly towards those He loves and I don't like hurting Him, that's for sure.

And so I should apologize...it was wrong of me and I'm often very wrong. I'm getting used to it!

Quote: "A good set of tools"? What kind of tools do you need? I just processed my first rooster. I got three back from someone I sold 5 chicks to. They were mostly grown. He processed out at 5 pds. with neck, gizzard and all. I didn't know him so it was possible. "My" roos are driving me nuts, they are over using my girls and chasing and abusing the little ones that aren't laying yet. At what age do you have to neuter them? Can I do it now and will they leave the girls alone after? Will they still provide protection and vigilance? Thx Linda : )

I tried to read this thread but 348 pages is just too much. I have some questions. I am getting my first chicks toward the end of this week. I'm already a fan of fermented foods like yogurt and kefir. I have raw ACV. What I want to know is:

1.About how long do you soak the chick starter before you feed it to the chicks?
2.How long can it sit in the brooder for them to eat before you throw it out?
3.Once they become big chickens, do you keep the dry stuff available and just feed the fermented a little everyday? I would assume that if you filled a feeder with wet food it probably wouldn't fall to the lower dish part readily.
4. Are there any other logistical things I need to know but haven't thought to ask?

Thanks so much,

Don't be lazy. READ! The same questions are asked over and over ad nausim and you won't have to read but a few to get all the info you really need. But then you will want to know more and will read them all anyway! Welcome to the forum!

I appreciate that, because it was actually difficult for me to post anything. Plus I have enjoyed reading a lot of stuff you have written in the past and felt somehow betrayed that one of the few times I asked a question I get called lazy. It may seem silly to you, but I was literally in tears. I have come to depend on this site that much because I wanted to do a good job with my chicks.

I have read lots of info. I have chicks coming in 3-4 days and only about a week ago did I read about fermented food for the first time. I tried to glean the info. I found this particular thread through the search. I knew it would take a few days to do the fermenting and I had a few questions I couldn't find the answers to. I thought if I read the 353 pages I might find the answers but I might not so I just simply stepped out of my comfort zone to ask. My questions were answered and I was very grateful then others got on and stated how lazy I was not to read all the pages and find the info for myself that they were tired of answering the same questions over and over. I am a nurse and I help people as well. I do not help them and then insult them in front of the world wide web at the same time. That is not much help at all. Even though I rarely made any post I felt like I had kind of a family here. I could have answered some of the questions even though I have never owned a chicken because I have read so much that you guys have written.Trying to humiliate people is not helping them.
I found this site through a local FB site I am with. Maybe this will help a bit.
