FERMENTED FEEDS...anyone using them?

It is OK to swap out feeds or mix them. Just remember where your nutrients are meeting in the middle depends on the ratio. Many people mix when they are switching to the next type of feed, say they have ran out yet but are ready to start...

I agree with @lazy gardener , I would feed the kombucha separately. There is no such thing as a sale here and prices are equal so I use Flock Raiser (20%) and OS on the side. I never will use layer though because my flock will always be mixed age and gender. Totally get the wallet dictating. Wish we had a TSC here.

Is Flock Raiser a brand or is it the variety meaning not layer feed? And what would you get if you had a TSC? It would be nice to have a recommendation when I go there. Should I get pellets or the other stuff, what's it called? LOL Thanks so much :)

Flock Raiser is the name of a specific feed produced by Purina

That's exactly what I meant. Good, I will do the same. So when you say layer feed do you mean any type of feed labeled "layer" whether it's pellets or otherwise? So what do you recommend starter or multi-flock? And can I sanitize egg shells and grind them instead of OS?
Sanitize the egg shells? Once I use the eggs, I rinse them off and put them in a plastic container. When it gets full, I crush it down and add more till it is full. I crush them down again and either put it in their feed or in a container so they can eat it at their leisure.

Any type of layer feed. Layer is typically 16% I would go with either, starter or multiflock, 18 - 20% protein. As far as egg shells, I simply toss them on the ground and give them a good stomp in the chicken run. No sanitizing here. I used to do all of that, but have found it to be a total waste of time.

I rinse and air dry egg shells, crush when accumulated, and mix with oyster shell in separate feeder.
Lots of way to fee egg shells.

Purina Flock Raiser is a product , yes. But there are several companies that make that type or variety, meaning not a layer feed. Some called "all flock".

Probably would get the same thing just at a cheaper price. Though it's hard to say because I am a label reader

If I could afford it, New Country Organics.

I used to rinse, air dry, crush when accumulated... but I'm thinking of switching to feeding out in the compost daily. It's hard having so many containers around the kitchen.

I used to dry and collect egg shells also. No more. simply toss in the compost container, or take them out with chicken scraps. No dedicated egg shell bowl. Making it a goal to do daily compost run.

Oh cool, so I don't even have to dry them out? Thanks

Ok, good to know about the feed. Should I bother rinsing the egg shells or do you just take them as is? This is so helpful. Thanks so much. I'm going to do this!
