FERMENTED FEEDS...anyone using them?

mine didnt like too soupy either, they do like it like Oatmeal thick.
I do have to get better dishes as the BIG dog bowl is too big and 2 like to stand in it.
I am thinking of getting/making something that I can hang on the wall so I can stop them from standing in it and able to take it off and clean

Ill add some dry crumbles to it to thicken it up when I feed.

I started back a little bit

Well, I soak it over night then fed it.
Then I put in too much water so had to use more feed on Saturday morning.
Which lead to just taking 2 spatcula scoops in the AM, and today I did am and pm only because they ate it all up like they were starving. Which is what I want. They were not eating it all before... which brought more flies. {where is the fly Emogji ?}
I am not leaving dry out in the PVC feeder. Not sure who spilled it all over but it was all over and I had filled it that day ! It should have lasted a few days ! I think the chipmunk got into it. Plus the chickens learned how to get the yogurt cap off

I don't mind feeding am & pm just need to find a happy medium that they finish what I put out and still are happy/healthy.

I feed out 1 time enough to last all day. Sometimes there's a little left, other times not. If I feed more than once a day my chickens go crazy like it's a treat so I go through more feed verses leaving it all day in my rain gutter feeder.

Don't worry about it going bad in 1 day or over night, that won't happen. Just don't leave any for free loaders and you should be fine. Sometimes feeding twice a day is inconvenient.

I have a complete newbie question. I've read a few different websites and articles, and tried to skim through this thread, but with 838 pages it's a bit overwhelming.

I've got feed, a five gallon bucket with a lid, raw apple cider vinegar, kombucha, and some vanilla yogurt on hand. Do you think any of this would work to start a batch, or do I need to track down some better lactobacillus culture? Thank you!

What IM said. While you can add a bit of ACV, or some whey from your yogurt, or even some SCOBY from your kombucha, it's totally un-necessary. The mix of feed and water will be inoculated perfectly well with the natural organisms in your air. It really doesn't get any simpler than this!

This is what I use for FF feed. I made 2 key hole slots so I can hang it on screw heads on my coop wall. Easy on and off the wall.

That's true. But if you live in the city and your water has chlorine, just let it evaporate. The chlorine will slow your initial ferment but not much beyond that. Some cities add chloramine which does not evaporate. But I don't know of anybody who wasn't able to use their city water successfully.

Very true

I've never inquired about our water additives here, I probably should, but I kinda don't want to know. Our water here smells terrible and doesn't taste that great so we get bottled. I just use that because I never remember to let any sit out.
