Fermenting feed for layers?

I will dish it out into a fine strainer, and let it sit for about an hour or so.

This allows the excess water to drain back.

I don't have time to do that in the morning before I leave for work and there's no way I'm getting up even earlier than I already do (5AM) to drain chicken feed, LOL!

I'm still getting a feel for how much water/feed to add back to my bucket since I'm trying to just keep it going perpetually like sourdough. That results in one thick day and then a more liquidy one. And I'll also cop to being lazy about draining... I sometimes mix in just a handful of dry if it's really soupy. The girls don't seem to mind either way but the poop weighs a whole lot more on the wetter days... makes sense I guess. Anywho, Merry Christmas all! I'm hoping for Agway gift cards from Santa!

i have long commute and work hour so i have a larger container going. But I have 4 quart sized containers with snap on lids that I fill ahead and grab one on my way to the coop pick up the empty in the coop and it saves serving time

I started fermenting some feed today and am super excited. I bought the flock some new feeders to go with. It only stays around 65 degrees in my house during the day-- 60 at night. How long should it take to finish?
