Fermenting Feed for Meat Birds

I agree the stats are skewed based on breed of the area at the time.
But I'm in no doubt, if one has a problem dog, its the owners.

As for FF! When can I add grains to the CX chicks feed?

I have a 4 grain mix and have almost offered it when treating the layers but didn't :/ I have grit available and they are about 10 days old. Is it too soon? They have wing and back feathers so I'm hoping they fill inaIa bit more then planned on booting the nuggets outside to their new coop at 2- 2 1/2 weeks old.

I added at 2 wks but you can add now if you like as long as you have grit available. They are more than capable of eating them, especially when they have been wet and softened...mine seemed to have a problem with wheat, though, and would leave it behind~which is a rare thing to see, CX leaving anything behind at feeding time. I feed BOSS to day old chicks when they are with a mama so they can "hunt" for bugs with her, by just tossing some into their bedding...some can get them in their mouths and some cannot but they've never had a problem with digesting them.

Do you feed them BOSS with the shell on?

When these chicks I have were maybe a week old I was trying to catch them one day to put them in the garage (after the head eating incident). One of them had a bug about half as big as it's head and was running for dear life I guess thinking I wanted his bug. lol "Broody Pou'let" (of Hick County lol) had them trained on bugs when they were just a few days old. Plumb cute! lol

About that chick that's head was ate off... I put out some rat poison and nothing has touched it. There shouldn't be anything else in the coop at night for a rat to eat. That is making me wonder.

Yep..with the shell on.  So, what do you figure ate your chick's head off?  Cat?

I don't know. I do wonder. I was hoping it was a rat. I haven't seen a cat around here in several years. I don't think they even consider stopping by here because of my loud crazy dogs. No doubt they would kill a cat.

Ive never met a pet staffy I didnt like, by that I mean properly introduced.
Sadly people here tend to breed them as tough dogs which is a great shame as they're very loving and cuddly. As our pointer showed some blood lines are really flawed and backyard breeders Really destroy a breeds reputation.
Our dog was a dodgy random litter the pet shop bought mainly cos the were cute...money in Puppies, greed is also a dangerous ingrediant in breed destruction .
Arrived in the boot/trunk of a car and her litter had been fed on rice bubbles.
( of course i heard this story after the children had fallen in love with her )
The pet shop did a nice job of socialising her. Nicest dog, incrediably gentle with little kids, speeds up with the big ones, reckon thats staffy, has the herding eye dog instincts, which is why I taught her she could herd them off the deck and patio.
Talks staffy though.

Did get Lucky with a non poultry chomper though. Phew.

I stopped walking my pointer to the library without a muzzle as the no hoper pack of kids loitering outside would taunt her, the muzzle was for her protection not theirs. ( yep baby gang members hang out by the library, show us ya small town)

I think its mongrel humans that mostly ruin dogs. Bad breeding policies, greed, lack of handling skills. Some dogs are just born broken and some are trained by broken people.

You are so right!
