Fermenting Feed for Meat Birds

Maybe I can get my meds regulated. hehe Nope, no meds - maybe I just need some...? LOL I asked my doctor one day if I could have something for my nerves because they were shot. He said no and I said every dang body in my family is on a nerve pill except me and the 7 year old grand nephew and I have to put up with all of them!!!!! He had no sympathy, just laughed at me.
Trust me, there is enough medical knowledge on this thread that we could adjust meds too.....

Maybe if we adjust THEIR meds we could solve your problems......

We got 78 yesterday and tho its a bit dreary with rain sprinkles here at the moment I'm still on the porch, in shirts and a tank having a coffee -vin November! Love it. It's 72 degrees lol my New England relatives are sending the envy in waves :)
I don't know what it's like where y'all live right now but we are having an unseasonably warm weekend and it's about 55* out, the moon is so bright it's like daybreak and the clouds are drifting by like dreams.  Supposed to be meteor showers tonight but I doubt we'll be able to see them with the moon so bright.  It's an absolutely stunning night, so if you get a chance to step out and see those showers, they were worth staying up for.  My kids and I used to go outside, wrap up in down comforters and watch the meteor showers with the dogs snugged up with us...precious times and awesome things to watch.

Boy we sure talk a lot on this forum!!! Bee, I tried to backtrack on here but I can't find it. What did you say about using Vicks Vapor Rub when one is getting sick?

Two more things:

1. I don't have a pressure canner. Can I use a water bath to can chicken?

2. One of my girls has been limping. She is eating and laying eggs. My husband and I have picked her up to examine her and nothing is broken. The middle toe is starting to curl a bit. The pad on the bottom of her foot is a little swollen, soft, and no scabs. We were thinking Bumble Foot....I don't want to start digging around in there until I am sure. From my pitiful explanations, what are your thoughts?

Thanks!!

Lisa :)

1. You'll get a lot of people who will tell you that you cannot, you must not and you are risking you and your family's life by water bath canning low acid foods.....but you can, people did it for many a long year before pressure canners were widely available and those same people are old, mountain folk who lived to tell about it. And are still doing it.

I've done it and I'll tell you why...I'm not a sheeple. My mother has water bath canned corn...many, many beautiful quarts of it...with such good results by adding just a little touch of acid with a slice of green tomato on top of the corn in the jar. Then, I met an old Mennonite lady who told me she has canned everything they've eaten in a big, black kettle out in the yard and her mother before her, all their lives(Mother was still living, BTW, at 96 and her daughter at 74 were still growing and canning their own foods each year). The pot holds 14 qt. jars at a time and they canned all manner of veggies, fruits and..yes..meats...chicken, pork, beef, mutton, bear and deer.

Well...you know me by now...I like a good experiment that goes against the general populace's idea of what "should" be the rule. I cold packed mine and boiled it for 90 min., much the same time it is pressure canned. Came out very well, less mushy than pressure canned meat, and we lived to tell about eating it. Pressure canning is a lot easier, mind you, because one is not dealing with the vast amounts of water and worrying about lowering jars into water that is hot...but it's doable. One just needs to maintain good hygiene in their canning practices and everything turns out good. Many a people have eaten many a jar of water bathed canned meat in this ol' world before all of the "more intelligent" generation showed up to follow the USDA recommendations like blind sheep. No worries!

2. Soak her foot in a warm epsom salt bath for a couple of times(5 min. once a day x2-3 days) and monitor results. Then check your protein levels in your feed. If you are powering up on proteins, time to cut back. If not, just monitor her and see if her natural immune system can fight off any kind of inflammation going on and let the epsom salts soothe the swelling.

Since we are showing pics of naked men, (lol) here is a pic of one of my big ol' long legged Australorp roos. He was about 22 weeks. They turned out a little skinny to me.
It isn't "naked"......it's "nekked".

I spent yesterday in shorts too(got up to 70* here) and am repeating the performance today(mid-50s)...unseasonably warm temps in the middle of Nov. Not unprecedented, but still unusual. I'll take it!

Saves on firewood!

I could sit out here nekked and no one but the chickens, cat and dog to see. In the interest of sparing their sight and good digestion and that of my poor mother, I do not go nekked but it's an option if we so wished.
