Fermenting Feed for Meat Birds

You have been close. Tucker Co. is adjacent to Randolph county...A few mile from Elkins.

I have been all over Randolph in one way or another. I used to live in Tucker when just a tyke, then have lived in Pendleton for the past several years. I used to work for Mountain Hospice, so have traveled into and out of Randolph pert near all my life as we traveled to and fro back and forth to live, fish, camp, and then to live again over in that region. Also for my job with MH.

Triple Willow...With my setup, it would be virtually impossible for me to feed these youngsters FF past egg production because at that point, they are turned out with the other birds. I'm not able to keep these on FF past that point because my flock is truly free range and not separated at all after they reach maturity.

I have cock stations where I put the selected cock in each and the hens I plan to coverd. Beyond that, all mature birds run together.

Fish, camp? I used to operate the Elk Springs hatchery and campground...in Randolph and Webster Co.s, respectively.

Lucky you!!! We used to stop there ever since I was big enough to walk and look at the trout and then I brought my own children there to "see the fish" when they were little. Always a treat.
Just curious..were you there in the mid 80's to 2001? If so, you may have seen a very large man with a shaven head. That would have been me...

NOT the Tall big man with dirty blonde hair and who whined a lot...I had to fire him. lolol You may have seen an attractive NATURAL red haired woman there too...lololol

I like your choice of birds. I understand, you are dealing with LOTS of birds. Personally, if I couldn't do the fermented feed I would check into that fermented drinking water (fermented plant juice). Sound like you have got a really cool operation!

Yeah, we were there between those years alright, but we never really got to see any of the people who worked there much. We would just stroll around the trout pools and toss dandelions into the water to see how quickly they would disappear. We really liked seeing the brood trout the most and would dream about catching one that big in the Blackwater.

Well....looks like I'm going to pick up those free meats this weekend!

Ten to twelve LF roosters of an age to have their full store of meat on the bone. Will sweeten them up for a few weeks and put them in a jar. YAY! More healthy meat, more golden stock. Don't know why I haven't been doing this all along....sometimes my mind gets stuck in the mud~ the wheels spin and nothing happens, ya know?

Will also be picking up two new layer birds, BAs, from another place...pullets at POL. That means two of my oldsters can be canned up when the cheap meats buy the farm in a couple of weeks.

See? Chicken math applies at my coop too....but I haven't forgotten how to subtract. Seems some folks have forgotten that part of arithmetic.

Houston we have a problem!!! Been seeing spiders in the house (and the same kind outside), big juicy ones! I don't do spiders ...rather have a house chicken! LOL Hmmm.... if I had a house chicken I might not have spiders. Nope, no way. LOL Time to bring out the poison!

Fed my pullets some jalapenos this morning to see if they will do what cayennes are said to do for egg production. Broody laid an egg this morning. Thank you Ms Broody Pou'let. One of the youngsters ate a dang egg! It was probably already broken because they haven't figured out the nest thing yet. Thinking about roll out nests to prevent some of those hussies from ending up in the oven!
