Fermenting Feed for Meat Birds

Those are darling! Yeah...my birds would take a rodeo to put something on them and it would be clawed off so quick I couldn't take a pic. Maybe Fat Cochin would stand still for a cute costume...he's that docile.

That one with the elf costume is just perfect with the bearded face!

LOL. Oh goodness, chicken in a gnome outfit was a good belly laugh for my morning.

I'd try that, except since going on FF, my birds are so lively and feisty that I can't catch em any more without a net!

I think they were so 'docile' before because they were so freakin' malnourished or something.

You know? I think you have a valid point. I bought a milk cow a few years back that was just in horrible shape and so sweet...could get her to do anything, go anywhere. Then I fed her up, treated her with some home remedies, and within a month she was glossy, bright and not quite so docile anymore. She became quite opinionated then and would get jealous of the dogs when they sat near me out in the orchard and would horn them away and take their spot. She liked being petted and brushed and became quite spoiled in the short time I had her. Even became a little food aggressive!

Blossom when I got her.....

A month later after having her calf and being fed, brushed, and pampered a bit....

Great job on mama cow!

Was she a Jersey/Holstein Cross?? Is that her calf behind her?

I bet all the critters at your place are fat and happy.

She was a full Jersey and that is her calf. I had her bred back and then sold her about a month later...made a $500 profit on the deal. I think all my animals are happy but I try very hard to not let them get too fat! Now..if I could only apply that to my own body......

Oh, if there were only someone to cut my rations when I started to waddle...

I had no intentions of buying a milk cow that day...I was just curious and followed up on the ad because I had always wanted one but didn't really have the space for one. Then I met her....and just couldn't leave her behind~mark that one down to my very first animal impulse control issue...once. She was just so nice and gentle and kind of neglected and lost looking. The beef cattle were not treating her good...I don't know that I'd ever seen or knew that cattle could make a distinction but they were kind of mean to her.

The reason I asked about Holstein was the rather prominent hip bones. If I was going to have a milk cow.....Jersey would be it. The poundage of milk is less, but it is a richer milk.
