Well, knowing this woman if I didn't guide her she would go ahead with it anyhow. She would buy hatchery stock leghorns as started pullets that had medicated feed and debeaking and vaccines and God knows what... She proclaimed her catalouge said that leghorns were cold hardy and thats what she thought because of that... I managed to convince her that the leghorns would be bad for the cold by telling her (and showing her pictures of) about a freind in illinois, who has leghorns, who has a barn and a heat lamp and still got frostbite. I managed to convince her away from breeds with big combs, and double yolkers and production birds. She wanted "Pretty" birds and "pretty" eggs... I convinced her that her first two birds should be a wheaten Ameracauna and a Black and Copper Marans. And if she gets two more it will be a buff Brahma and a buff orpington! I also convinced her that she should get a small coop and a bigger pen. She wanted a 4X8 walk in coop with two roosts for four birds... And then she didn't want them to have places they could hide or shelter so they'd have to come out and be with her. 9_9 I told her that if her chickens had nowhere to hide when they were scared they would turn neurotic and try biting her and spazzing out. I also managed to convince her that she should get good stock... From me. From hatching eggs I order and hatch and brood. And she'll be paying me for them. So that is anything at least. Some people cant be stopped. All I can do is help her along for the sake of her future birds.
